Two Months in the Media
February to March 2016 has been a really busy time at Saxonhouse. Initially our additional publicity for the Kickstarter campaign was simply via the Facebook page with friends and ourselves sharing to every group we thought might be interested. We also emailed local media but initially everything remained quiet.
Then came the first call from BBC Radio Lincs followed quickly by The Market Rasen Mail, then The Lincolnshire Echo. On the day after The Echo was published we had a call from Look North, then Siren FM. Finally Estuary TV got in touch.
What a media whirl! We have been directed, interviewed, edited, photographed. We have given serious explanations and told funny anecdotes – and read some things that we’re pretty sure we didn’t say! We have also met some very nice people and made new friends. On the whole it has been great fun!

Look NorthYunus Mulla and photographer Dave spent a few hours here and created two broadcasts: a lunchtime short and an evening interview.
Express OnlineAfter a short spell of quiet, we received a phone call from SWNS news agency who had picked up the story from local news and wanted to see if they could get interest from the nationals. We hardly thought the nationals would be interested, but around Easter we had an email to tell us that the Express Online was running it.

BBC Radio LincolnshireMelvyn Prior recorded for Melvyn in the Morning, broadcast on the 1st March
Melvyn stayed with us for some hours and created a detailed and interesting interview which we enjoyed doing.
Siren FMWe had a lovely interview with two students, Kai and Maisie, from Lincoln University, who run Squabble Box on Siren fm, a community radio station.
Estuary TVEmma Lingard from Estuary TV visited twice -firstly to discuss the Kickstarter campaign and then to report on its success. Emma really took an interest and became yet another friend to Saxonhouse.

The Lincolnshire EchoThe Echo ran a double page spread and triggered a flurry of calls from the other news outlets.
Mail OnlineA couple of days later, we were told by friends that we were also featured in the Mail Online (the most visited English language online newspaper in the world! Scary!) In general, both these online papers treated the story with respect; nonetheless the headlines were quite misleading, making it sound as if we had taken 20 years to build Saxonhouse and that we had crowd funding to build it, rather than just to help with rethatching. Still we feel we escaped relatively unscathed.
